MODEST BEGINNINGS

I have been asked -- How did the Reno QRP Group get started?
As I recall it began with three Reno area Hams sitting down to have lunch.
These three people were Lou W7HV, Carl K5HK, and myself. It was discovered that all three had great interest in low power radio,
and they loved to build their own equipment.
This meeting took place in the summer of 2002. There has been a monthly meeting ever since.

This is the first organized meeting for the Reno QRP Group.

Nine members are in attendance and present.

Steve NU7T wrote up the Bylaws dated July 20, 2004. He presented them to the members. Everyone present was in favor of adopting the bylaws for the Reno QRP Group.
The first order of business was to elect a president. Carl K5HK was nominated and elected as the first president of the Reno QRP Group.
The second order of business was to elect a Secretary/Treasurer. Steve NU7T was nominated and elected for that position.
The next order of business was to establish date, time and location of the monthly meetings for the Reno QRP Group. It was voted that the meetings would be held at Amelia’s Restaurant on Rock Street Reno, NV. The meeting will be held on the third Monday of each month at 11:30 AM.
Meeting was closed 1:30 PM Local Time

CAMARADERIE

At these meetings you can always count on good fellowship, members are eager to shear their knowledge and experiences. Show and tell is another feature that can inspire new
and old Hams alike. Our membership has grown through word of mouth and our WEB page. In eight and a half years the club has grown from 3 to 43 members.
From the beginning until today there has been no rules, no dues, and no problems. Is this a great radio club or what?

Besides the monthly meeting there has been group activities that the club has partesapate in. The ARRL Field Day is the most popular of these activities. The Reno QRP Group has been very successful in Field Day because the group comes together as an efficient team.

The members are rewarded with the satisfication that they have contributed in some way of educating the public in the merits of Amateur Radio. It is an excellent time for all members of the Reno QRP Group to spend some quality time with one another, as our monthly meeting time is always to short.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Field Day is also a national contest. Below is our standing for the last five years for which we have records.
